Malaga is one of the biggest international airports in Spain. Malaga airport was extended to host a new runway to make more space for the large number of flights that arrive at Malaga from all over the world. The airport has a huge car park catering for the never-ending influx of tourists. Malaga airport is located midway to other destinations like Granada, Almeria or Seville, which is why it’s the access point of a great amount of tourists. Handling over 12 million passengers annually, the airport has three terminals, Terminal 1, Terminal 2 and the recently constructed Terminal 3. Located just to the south of Malaga airport is the General Aviation Terminal, separate from the other terminals. This small terminal provides departures and arrivals for private jet flights, charter flights and any private aircraft services at Malaga airport.

About Malaga

Malaga is a city in the southern Spanish region of Andalucía and the capital of the Malaga Province. It’s the largest city on the Costa del Sol with a typical Mediterranean climate. It is the birthplace of the famous artist Picasso. Although Malaga is more laid back than Madrid or Barcelona, Malaga is still the centre and transport hub for the hugely popular Costa del Sol region, which is flooded with tourists in the summer, and the city has certainly changed with the influx of tourists enjoying the sun and sand. All around Malaga you can see lots of new constructions, as well as hotels and facilities geared to attract and interest tourists. Malaga also offers some genuinely interesting historical and cultural attractions in its old city and its setting on the coast is truly beautiful.

The city of Malaga has a history that goes beyond the Roman Empire and the presence of humans in prehistoric times, has given Malaga an attractive history that brings tourists in droves to see the museums, which hold many famous archaeological remains. Adding to the magic of the city, Malaga has excellent shopping and quality restaurants. Along the coast there are many restaurants where you can have fish, seafood, paella, sangria, etc. One of the most famous beach restaurants is El Tintero, at the east end, where there is no menu; the waiters sing out what they are carrying and they leave you a plate at your signal. The most typical food to eat in Malaga is espetos, sardines and pescaíto frito; all types of deep-fried fish from anchovies to squid.

Places you may like to visit during your stay in Malaga

Cathedral of Malaga

The Construction of the Cathedral of Malaga began in the first half of the sixteenth century 1528, and continued until the 18th century, but it remains unfinished and the subsequent alterations give the place the unique look that characterizes it and is the source of its popular name, "The Manquita." Currently there are no plans to finish off the construction, and looks to stay this way...as it’s an architectural monument and legacy as it is. The exterior of the cathedral has gardens and a beautiful patio with orange trees. The construction of the cathedral was made with stones obtained from the old quarry of Valley-Niza. Inside there is a vast body of sculptural work, including 42 carvings by Pedro de Mena, Vargas and Giuseppe Ortiz Micael Alfaro. There is also an excellent organ, with more than 4,000 pipes, which is still used today. It also houses the Cathedral Museum.

Picasso Museum

The Museum is set in an ancient Andalusian style Palace dated from the 16th century Palacio de Buenavista, declared a National Monument in 1939 featuring renacentist architecture and Mudéjar elements. This remarkable museum has become a major attraction. Wonderfully restored, it is located in the old part of the city. The Roman Theatre in Malaga was built in the first century BC and promoted by Emperor Caesar Augustus in the Roman city of Malacca. The Roman Theatre remained hidden for centuries until it was discovered in 1953 when they began the construction of the new palace gardens and library files. It is located in the heart of the historic centre of the city of Malaga, next to the Cathedral of Malaga and near the Castle of Gibralfaro and Alcazaba.
